Late yesterday evening, the House Rules Committee decided on which amendments would be offered for the scheduled floor vote on the FY 2011 Transportation-HUD (THUD) spending bill, H.R. 5850, today. NAHRO was present for this debate and learned that several amendments of importance to NAHRO will be offered and voted on.
Of note, Representatives Adler (D-N.J.), Peters (D-Mich.), Himes (D-Conn.) and Welch (D-Vt.-At Large) will offer amendment #106 which would, if approved, eliminate committee- approved funding for HOPE VI, Brownfields Redevelopment, HUD-VASH, Resident Opportunity and Supportive Services (ROSS) and the Section 108 program. It would also reduce the HOME program by $175 million.
Please call or email your members of Congress and voice your concerns regarding this amendment and educate and inform them of the benefits of these programs in your community.
Other amendments of importance to NAHRO members which will be considered on the floor tomorrow include:

Amdt #71 by Rep. Culberson (R-Tex.) would reduce the bill’s funding level by $12.4 billion. This would represent an 18 percent cut. Amdt #87 by Minority Leader Boehner (R-Ohio) would reduce HUD's Transformation Initiative by $40 million. Amdt #61 by Rep Braley (D-Iowa) would increase funding to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) by $20 million in order provide CDBG disaster relief and recovery funds to assist communities in the Midwest affected by the flooding that occurred during July of 2010.
